The Apple Pie Trail is a culinary adventure trail located in beautiful South Georgian Bay. The trail is an annual celebration of the regions’ rich apple-growing history and superb climatic conditions for doing so.
Visitors to Ontario’s Apple Country can create their own experience by choosing from an extensive list of local vendors including markets, orchards, restaurants, cafes, galleries and more. All of them serving up and dishing out their best translation of the delicious local apple.
South Georgian Bay, with its stunning views of the Niagara Escarpment and the picturesque little towns that dot along it’s way, is more commonly known as Ontario’s Apple Country and there’s a huge reason why.
Early European settlers figured out that the conditions created by the lake and escarpment were perfect for growing delicious apples. They were planted in abundance and provided more than enough to wade through the long Ontario winters.
Apples quickly became a staple and the art of apple pie making soon followed. Now, every year, the region celebrates its rich apple history with the Apple Pie Trail, a culinary adventure trail stretching throughout the region.
Visitors plan their own excursions by choosing from an extensive list of vendors including markets, orchards, restaurants, cafes, galleries and more. All of them serving up and dishing out their best translation of the local apple.
This year, 40 different vendors are participating throughout six different towns and townships. The trail map, downloadable via the website, recommends a route to visit them all or you can make your own if you’re more constricted on time.
With the potential of over 18 varieties of apples to try, there is a never-ending supply of learning and discovering for all at this popular annual celebration.
