Kitchener’s Beer & Bacon Show

February 24 marked the first annual I Heart Beer & Bacon Show in Kitchener, Ontario. 40 Ontario craft beer, beverage and food vendors in my home city? This was one foodie event I wasn’t going to miss!

Kicking off a series of events across Ontario, Kitchener’s Beer & Bacon Show was held at the newly opened Lot42. Similar to all of I Heart Beer’s events, this show featured all kinds of craft breweries and bacon-inspired bites. In addition to all off the delicious food and beverage offered up, beer pong, giant Jenga, foosball and a DJ brought energy and interaction to the event.

Yes beer, but first, BACON!

After tasting all kinds of delicious eats from the various and very creative food vendors, I definitely found a few favourites. The Chau bacon devilled eggs were full of savoury, tangy flavours with delicious pickles on the side. I really wish I had seconds!

The SouthEast Sandwiches pulled pork and bacon sliders were spicy, satisfying and paired really well with the crisp, refreshing Grand River Tailgate Lager I was sipping.

As a local meat and cheese fan I loved the ease of the charcuterie satays from Kitchener’s newly opened Swine & Vine. It’s not easy balancing little glass mugs and food, so thank you Swine & Vine for making it easy for us to nibble away.

My absolute favourite, (which I did have seconds of, and a third…shhh) was the Gusto Beckford Catering Co. candied bacon. Yes, candied bacon! It was sweet, fatty, salty and maybe one of the most addictive foods I’ve eaten in a while. Yum!

Now for the brews…

I tasted all kinds of Ontario craft beer and it was awesome seeing representation from Niagara, London, Toronto, Hamilton and beyond, along with my favourites from Kitchener, Waterloo and Cambridge.

Completely on-point with Love Local Food values, HomeTown Brew Co.’s HTBC Local Flavours brew was created in collaboration with local farmers. A portion of the proceeds of this craft beer goes to Norfolk County’s Agriculture Society, so naturally, I tried this one twice.

New to Kitchener, Lot42 also offered up its house brew that will be served at their events. The Blonde Ale and ISA were both tasty picks. We love that this local venue is also versed in brewing. Way to keep it local Lot42.

I’m a huge fan of Oast House Brewers’ Barn Raiser Ale. I love the punch from the citrusy hops and the nutty aromas that come from this craft beer brewed in Niagara-on-the-Lake. I’m also a total sucker for their bright red branding…it’s O’h so good!
