Willkommen! It’s that time of year again. Don your lederhosen, dirndl, feathered cap, and fill your favourite stein… Kitchener’s Oktoberfest begins today!
KW Oktoberfest is the largest Bavarian festival in North America, and for more than 40 years, patrons line the streets and fill 15 festhallen for music, food, drink and a slew of family-centric activities. With over 40 family events, and Canada’s largest Thanksgiving Day parade, this is an Ontario experience not to be missed!
If you can’t make the trip to the KW Region, no problem – we have a few festive suggestions around Ontario that will appease any Bavarian feast loving folk:
1. Take in German-food favourites, Spaetzle and Snitchzel at Scarborough’s Little Bavaria, complete with the option of 1 litre beers to accompany the experience.
2. In the heart of the Entertainment District, Toronto’s WVRST restaurant serves up over 25 different hand-made sausages, including the traditional Bratwurst, Currywurst and of course, Oktoberfest sausages. Don’t forget to pair these tasty treats with a classic side of handmade pretzels with grainy mustard.
3. Speaking of pretzels, did you know they are really easy to make at home? Don’t just take it from us, give them a try with our favourite recipe for Mini Pretzels with Avonlea Cheddar Cheese Dip courtesy of Brittany Stager. Be sure to have LOTS of grainy mustard on hand for dipping as well – trust us!
